SCHOLARSHIPS

Every school year the Bonanza Casino awards two $1,000 scholarships to students from North Valleys High School to help ease the burden of the cost of higher education. The winners, along with their parents and a NVHS educator of their choice are then invited to an awards dinner given in their honor at the Cactus Creek Southwestern Steakhouse.

A “Partners in Education” sponsor since the school opened its doors in 2001, we take pride in not only offering the scholarship program but working with the school on various other projects such as: educational seminars,  job mentor/shadowing and work training programs and internships. We also work closely with educators from the school to provide part-time work experience for  students in our restaurants. Meal certificates in the Cactus Creek Southwestern Steakhouse and Branding Iron restaurant for the Students of the Month, Teachers of the Month, Homecoming King and Queen and food and dessert platters for various special functions at the school are also donated throughout each school year.

The giving however is not one sided. NVHS students in turn give back to the casino by having their choir perform at several of the casino’s employee functions, helping to decorate the casino for the holidays and by doing a “spring cleaning” of the property. “The relationship between the school and the casino is more than we could have dreamed of. It really is an example of what can happen, what should happen when you invest time and effort in building a relationship with the community.” says Ryan Sheltra, General Manager of the casino.
